“Developing and embedding a strategic approach to elearning in the Borders… from scratch”
Simon is a consultant trainer for Jisc Netskills. Following a History degree, he started teaching in the vocational sector in the mid-1980s and fell into educational technology at Leicester University during the first phase of the Internet circa 1991.
After an MA, he worked on a number of early web projects supporting academics in making better use of the emerging technologies. He joined Newcastle University in 1999 to lead on the roll-out of a learning and teaching strategy for the University, including the implementation of an institution-wide online learning platform.
Simon moved into a part-time role from 2006 and in a consultancy role has since worked in the NHS, schools, colleges, prisons, universities, and voluntary and community organisations to support the effective use of new technologies. His interests and expertise, therefore, are in the enhancement of learning: “…technology is the means to the end, not the end in itself…”
