Innovation in Practice workshop area
“Achievement through literacy”
Carol Allen is the School Improvement Advisor for ICT and SEN in North Tyneside LA. She has taught since 1980 in both mainstream schools – primary and high, and schools for students with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Recognising, as an English specialist, that communication lies at the heart of all effective teaching, the majority of her work has centred on creative and engaging use of technology to support communication in its widest sense.
Carol has worked in partnership with many leading educational technology companies as it is only by true education/business collaboration that products effectively support practice. She has worked on a variety of products from development, through application to evaluation of pedagogical impact.
All work centres on easy to replicate practice which is fun, achievable and creates communication enhancement opportunities and current workshop/keynote presentations include Denmark, BETT 2014, Riyadh , Manchester, London and Australia.
Currently looking at the impact of mobile technologies on inclusive practice, she is working with a zoo to produce some very different learning opportunities for the staff, school and family visitors and some of the animals themselves! Twin vices of caffeine and chocolate keep the energy levels constantly at ‘impact’!
