“Turning the iPod Touch dream into reality in the primary setting”
Follow Howard
Howard is the head teacher at Norris Bank primary school and has been for eight years. Before Norris Bank, he was a deputy head at another Stockport school. He believes in appreciating the talents and skills of others before criticising them and he welcomes feedback and support from teaching staff.
At Norris Bank, every child in the school has a one-page profile and they have now moved on to the staff. To lead by example, Howard and his deputy wrote theirs and put them on the staff room wall. Howard said he enjoyed having an energised team around him, that he wanted to feel proud of the school and he wanted to feel calm and in control in challenging situations.
In his ‘how to support me’ section, Howard said when he is nervous, he sometimes struggles to recall his words. He asked for patience as he would eventually recall what he wanted to say and carry on talking. He also asked that staff give him feedback on how he deals with challenging situations, as it would give him reassurance.
