AMiE is the leadership section of ATL, the education union, representing leaders and managers in schools and further education and is made up of head teachers, deputy and assistant head teachers, school bursars, business support managers, leaders and managers at all levels working in academies, further education, sixth form and adult education colleges; and managers in universities, training organisations and other areas of the education sector.
Given the increasing integration of schools and further education and AMiE's equally strong representation from both of these fields it means that AMiE is well placed to recognise opportunities and weaknesses within the current changes to the education landscape and express front line views on what would be best for both education leaders and managers, in delivering change on the ground, and for the learners they serve.
With extensive knowledge of the huge range of issues faced by leaders and managers every day, we understand that you have different needs and require a different level of expertise and guidance. AMiE has been developed with this in mind and provides its members with a dedicated top-quality service.
On 27 & 28 February AMiE/ATL will be represented at the Education Innovation conference & exhibition at Manchester Central, stand F44. The theme will be Data Gold, building on AMiE’s recent publication and website highlighting the importance of treating data with the respect it deserves. Co-author Russell Pearson will be on hand to offer advice on how to get the most of your data and how to gauge if your management information culture and ethos needs improving using the Data Gold ‘Culture & Ethos Toolkit’. He will also be talking about the training and consultancy opportunities that arise from the Data Gold booklet and related MIS Good Practice Guides and also talking about the newly launched Level 5 MIS Managers qualification.
Come along and hear first-hand how colleges have benefitted from implementing the strategies found in the book and guides and the positive outcomes that have resulted. With academies increasingly structured along the lines of further education there is also a lot of transferable learning for these in this sector too. There will also be a prize draw, the winner of which will secure a free half days consultancy from Russell relating to their MIS culture and ethos needs. There will also be goodies to give away and copies of the booklet and guides will be available.

What is Tablets for Schools?
Tablets for Schools is a not-for-profit initiative, aiming to transform learning for every child in the UK. Our focus is to provide a categorical case for the use of tablet technology in schools, and to provide a blueprint for implementing tablets effectively. To do this, we commission the largest independent research programme in the world, which looks at the impact of tablets on teaching and learning. Our latest research has looked at 21 schools in the UK that use tablets, from September 2011 to September 2013. Using our findings, we aim to provide best practice for schools who want to embark on their tablet journey and we are developing a free Toolkit app (available at the end of November) to do this.
Our mission.
We have seen that tablets provide significant benefits to education and we believe that these benefits, should not be limited to the privileged. Many children from well-off families already own tablets, meaning that a “digital divide” in education could easily develop. A key part of our mission is to prevent this from happening through making sure that any investments made by schools, government or parents can be justified by solid research.

Teaching Leaders is a charity which addresses educational disadvantage by growing a movement of outstanding middle leaders from schools in challenging contexts. We launched in 2008 with a cohort of 30 middle leaders from central London. Four years on, we now have almost 500 fellows and alumni from 243 secondary schools across England.
We do this by offering two types of programme to our schools:
* TL Fellows Programme www.teachingleaders.org.uk/fellows-experience, which selects and develops a national network of high potential middle leaders. Fellows receive the intensive coaching and training they need to make them confident leaders of their teams and transform student results in their areas of responsibility.
* TL Teams programmes www.teachingleaders.org.uk/teams-programmes, which develop groups of middle leaders in a school/cluster of schools. Participants build their core professional skills and collaborate as a team, ensuring consistent leadership across the school. We run two TL Teams programmes: TL Teams (Bespoke) and TL Teams (NPQML: National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders) which is National College accredited.
GCSE results in our Fellows' departments rise by an average of 15% over their two years on the Fellows Programme, with 74% of those pupils who are part of an improvement initiative achieving A*-C.

Whole Education is a growing partnership of individuals, organisations and schools that are committed to all young people having access to a ‘whole education’. This means an education that: develops a learner’s knowledge, skills and personal qualities; makes learning engaging and relevant; supports learning in various settings, not just in the classroom; and, engages the wider community in learning. A key area of their work is to support schools to provide a ‘whole education’ through the Whole Education Network.
The Network is seeking to build the capacity of member schools at whatever stage of their journey to provide young people with a whole education. Schools share practice, learn from each other and develop future best practice around different themes such as- developing digital literacy skills or approaches to improving literacy.
